OH MY STARS!
OH MY STARS!
A Starry Exploration of Studio 180 Design's Squiggles, Dots, and Lines Fabric Collection
Have you ever stumbled upon something that instantly ignites your imagination? That's exactly what happened when I first laid eyes on Studio 180’s Squiggle’s Dots and Lines Island Batik Fabric collection. The moment I saw it, I knew exactly what I wanted to create: a constellation of stars, each with its own unique charm. So, get ready for a star-studded journey because that's exactly where I'm taking you! Stay until the end for details on the OH MY STARS Challenge, information on our giveaways, and how you can participate to WIN!
Let's start by taking a closer look at this remarkable collection, which boasts a modern style and undeniable appeal. What caught my eye the most was a fabric with a subtle sparkle, perfect for making stars shine bright. I love the deep hues of Blues and greens offset by lighter and brighter shades of this collection.
So, I reached for my go-to tool for making Lemoyne Stars—the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool, along with my Lemoyne Star Technique Sheets and instruction guide. This reminded me of the free Wall Hanging project that comes with the tool. The wall hanging features every size star that can be made using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool from 3” up to 12” finished.
While the pattern primarily consists of basic Lemoyne stars, I couldn't resist adding my own twist to the project. I decided to push the boundaries by incorporating every Lemoyne star technique possible, all without Y Seams! Thanks to the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool, construction has never been easier, ensuring perfect points every time.
Did you know....
There are 7 unique Lemoyne star techniques that extend the use of your Rapid Fire Lemoyne star tool?
ALL of them can be pieced withOUT Y Seams!
Let’s explore each one...
Banded Stars: I experimented with different variations, alternating inside diamond colors and bands to create these captivating designs.
Blazing Lemoyne Stars: While I only included one in the quilt, these stars truly stand out, especially when crafted with vibrant contrasting fabrics. I often like to alternate the inner and outpoints to create even more intrigue and excitement!
Fussy Cut Lemoyne Stars - By sewing together strips of fabric and carefully cutting out diamond shapes, I was able to achieve a split-diamond look, albeit with some added bulk at the center. Press seams open when making this one! A Fun thing to do with this technique is to repeat a fabric pattern within the star diamonds to create a stunning kaleidoscope effect!
Liberty Stars: The Liberty Lemoyne Star shines brightly in any color scheme, especially when adorned with the Squiggles, Dots, and Lines fabric.
Setting Triangles: While my attempt at creating a floating pattern in the setting triangles didn't quite pan out as expected, it was a fun experiment nonetheless! Setting Triangle are beautiful in quilts. Studio 180 Designs Faire Isle is a good example.
Starburst: These stars exude a modern flair reminiscent of the Squiggles, Dots, and Lines fabric line.
Stripped Pieced Stars: This technique is incredibly easy yet yields stunning results, perfect for adding variety to the quilt.
Twisted Wedge Star: I barrowed this one from the Wedge Star tool but since the Wedge Star and Lemoyne Star are both made using 45-degree diamonds, it's easy to swap techniques between the two tools. Often the only thing that changes is the side triangles.
One of my absolute favorite techniques is the Star 60 Log Cabin, although I didn't attempt to incorporate it into this project. Maybe next time. But even without it, the endless possibilities and versatility of the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool are clearly evident.
There's something truly magical about creating Lemoyne stars (and addicting). With so many options and companion patterns available, it's easy to design your own quilt masterpiece. And the modern appeal of the Squiggles, Dots, and Lines fabric line perfectly complements Studio 180 Design's Modern180 pattern collection, offering endless inspiration.
